Poetry – Sena – Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving,
Sumptuous feast with friends
For we, the lucky ones.

Outside, noses pressed to the glass,
The world of want watches.

Why, Mother?

How do they live like that
While we are hungry and cold?
What can we do to be like them?
Fed and warm?

Are they better than we are?
Is their god more powerful?
What can we do to be like them?
Whole and strong?

Who decides who will be poor?
Who can be hurt and who cannot?
What can we do to be like them?
Safe and unafraid?

Is there no one to teach us?
No one to tell us
What can we do to be like them?
Heedless and happy?
