The Final Act of the Trump Show

Video of talk by Jonathan Karl

11 a.m., January 16, 2022

At this Sunday Forum we will watch a video from the Commonwealth Club of California in which journalist and author Jonathan Karl describes “The Final Act of the Trump Show.”

Veteran journalist Jonathan Karl has known and covered Donald J. Trump longer than any other White House reporter. And during that time, he has been praised, taunted and branded an enemy of the people by President Trump himself. So possibly nobody is in a better position to tell the story of the shocking final chapter of the Trump show than Karl.

In his new book Betrayal: The Final Act of the Trump Show, Karl takes us behind the scenes of some of the darkest days in American history and shares what happened during the final weeks of the Trump presidency, the aftermath that followed, and what it means for the future of the Republican Party.

You can view his 58-minute video, which was recorded last December, at www.youtube.com/watch?v=HzeyKJmTTTM.

Program Change: How Culture Influences Our Emotions (and Why it Matters)

Video of Stanford Psychology Professor, Jeanne Tsai

11 a.m., December 19, 2021

Our previously scheduled speaker had to cancel her talk. We apologize for this late change.

Instead, we will watch and discuss a video of a talk by Stanford Psychology Professor, Jeanne Tsai, entitled “How Culture Influences Our Emotions (and Why it Matters)”.

Here is the description of the video:

“Which culture(s) do you identify with and how does that shape your mood, decision-making and emotions? Psychology Professor Jeanne Tsai, ’91, discusses how culture influences our feelings, particularly the emotions we want to feel. She also explores how these cultural differences affect how we perceive and treat others in an increasingly multicultural world.

Jeanne Tsai, ’91, is a professor of psychology and the director of Stanford’s Culture and Emotion Lab. Her research examines how culture shapes affective processes and the effects these cultural differences have on decision-making, how people think about health and illness, and how they perceive others in an increasingly multicultural world.”

You can view this 58-minute video from the Stanford Alumni Association at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ak8eVjpNpfE.
