Videos and Discussion – How to Fix a Democracy

At this Sunday’s Humanist Forum, Alex Havasy will host as we watch and discuss 4 short videos on ways to make a government more democratic. After the videos, we’ll discuss what you believe would improve democracy and what you think might make it worse.

HR 1 – the “For the People Act” (video and discussion)

At this Sunday’s Humanist Forum, a video about HR 1 – the “For the People Act” will be shown, and then discussed by audience members.

The video shows Rep. John Sarbanes (D-MD) discussing HR 1, the “For the People Act”, which will implement voting reform for all national elections. The bill is designed to prevent voter suppression, and simplify voting and registering to vote. His discussion constitutes most of the video at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jW3QZWUVTM.

After watching the video, Alex Havasy and Carl Angotti will open discussion on details of the bill, the difficulties in passing it, and what concerns we may have about it.
