Can Art Change our Water Consciousness?

Linda Gass

Jan 11, 2015

Linda Gass makes artwork in a variety of mediums inspired by the connections between humans and the water and land that sustain them. Linda’s presentation will take you on a photographic journey to the places that inspire her work, from the wilderness areas of California to significant water interventions in the American West. She will show images of her artwork made in response to her experiences and research. You will leave with a new appreciation and awareness for water resources and how art can play an important role in educating the public. After a background in math and computer science, Linda returned to making textiles 17 years ago and now exhibits her work internationally in galleries and museums. Her work is published in numerous books and magazines. (See www.lindagass.com)

Benefit Corporations, Global Consciousness and How You Can Co-Create a Sustainable Economic System

Benefit Corporations, Global Consciousness and How You Can Co-Create a Sustainable Economic System

John Montgomery

John Montgomery

Last year, John Montgomery (a corporate attorney, entrepreneur, leadership consultant, speaker and author) introduced the Humanist Community to the latest evolutionary form of the corporation, the benefit corporation, which is the first corporate form that has a social and environmental conscience in addition to the usual profit oriented one. Benefit corporations have now been adopted by 26 states, DC, and British Columbia , and are being considered by countries in Europe and Latin America . John will discuss this shift in global consciousness in business to a triple bottom line approach – people, planet and profit – and invite you to help co-create a sustainable economic system.

Steve Raney

Climate is the world’s top priority issue in terms of causing the most human suffering and a disproportionate impact on subsistence peoples. For climate, CA state government is the world’s best, with remarkably strong, visionary climate laws/regulations, including a 12-month-old Cap and Trade program. In contrast, our gridlocked national government protects the status quo.

Steve Raney (a volunteer with the Silicon Valley chapter of 350.org, a national volunteer climate activism organization, with Master’s Degrees in business, software, and transportation) will discuss ways the Humanist Community in Silicon Valley can participate in local actions, followed by a campaign to make CA policy national policy.
